Texas Hold 'em

In Texas Hold'em, each player is given 2 pocket cards. The game continues with a total of 5 community cards face up, first 3, then 1 after the other. Between each deal there is a round of betting.

Hold'em is played with two blinds (a bet before the pocket cards are received). The first two players after the dealer pay the blinds. The small blind is posted by the first player and the big blind by the second. In heads-up games, the player seated after the dealer pays the big blind. The first two betting rounds are played with the lower limit while the last two rounds of betting are played with the higher limit.

Omaha

Omaha is a poker game derived from Texas Hold'em. Each player is dealt four cards ("hole cards"), which belong only to that player. Five community cards are dealt face-up on the "board". All players use three of the five community cards together with two of their hole cards to make the best five-card poker hand.

Omaha Hi/Lo

The player with the best five-card hand for high wins half the pot, and the player with the best hand for low wins the other half. In Omaha, players must use two and only two of their four hole cards in combination with three cards from the board. In the event of identical hands, the high and low shares of the pot will be equally divided between the players with the best hands. In the event that no hand qualifies for low, the best hand(s) for high wins the pot.

For a five card hand to qualify for low, it cannot include cards higher than 8 or contain any pairs. Aces can be used for both high and low. When comparing low hands, the winner is the hand with the lowest high card, thus 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 is better than Ace, 2, 3, 4, 8. The best possible low hand is Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Seven Card Stud

In Seven Card Stud, players are dealt seven cards throughout the course of the hand, but only the best five-card hand possible for each player is used to determine the winner.

Before a game of Seven Card Stud starts, all players ante a nominal amount, for example $1 in a $10-$20 game. Each player is dealt two hidden hole cards and one exposed card. The player with the lowest exposed card is the "bring-in", and is forced to make a wager of either a half a small bet or a full small bet (for example, either $1 or $2 in a $2/$4 game). Action continues clockwise around the table until betting is complete for the round.

In the unlikely event that all 8 players are still in the hand on the river, the total number of cards needed for all the players to receive their own card would not be available in a standard deck of cards. In this case the river card is dealt face up on the table and it will be used as a community card.

Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo

The player with the best five-card hand for high wins half the pot, and the player with the best hand for low wins the other half. In the event that no hand qualifies for low, the best hand(s) for high wins the pot.

Limit

In structured limit games, the only valid bet/raise is the current limit, for example $5 on the first two rounds in a $5-$10 Hold'em game. There may be a maximum of 4 bet/raises in a round of betting. This includes a bet, raise, re-raise and a cap.

No-Limit

In no-limit, a valid bet/raise must be at least the higher of the current limit and the last bet/raise. No higher limit is available, other than the players' credits. No maximum number of raises exists.

Pot-Limit

In pot-limit, the valid bet/raise must be at least the higher of the current limit and the last bet/raise. A pot-limit bet/raise may be at highest the value of the pot, plus all bets at the table including the current players call. No maximum number of raises exists.

Start at the Bottom

4 Hole Cards

In Omaha players are dealt four hole cards instead of just two. This drastically increases the number of possible starting hands, and also requires a player to do a more in-depth analysis of each starting hand's strengths and weaknesses.

Two Cards in Use

The next big difference between Holdem and Omaha is the two-hole cards restriction that constitutes that even though you have four pocket cards, two, and only two, must always be "in play".

You cannot for example "play the board" as such a hand would NOT contain two of your hole cards. Neither can you use two communal spades and add three spade cards from your hole cards to complete a flush, as that would also break the rule – three cards being more than two.

IN OMAHA TWO – NO MORE NO LESS – OF YOUR 4 HOLE CARDS MUST ALWAYS BE IN PLAY.

Which cards you use often changes throughout the hand. And this is what makes Omaha so exciting and also explains why it is to a greater degree than Holdem is a game of mathematics. There's (almost) no end to the possibilities!

Pot Limit

Omaha is a game well-suited for the pot limit structure. And most players believe it works far better than playing the game in no limit format. So in order to learn Omaha properly one must grasp the basics of pot limit.

A flush in Holdem is a relatively strong hand as the chance of someone having a better hand is slim. But in Omaha this is much more frequent. Having the "nuts" (best possible combination) thus becomes much more vital. Having semi-nuts (for example a king high flush) can many times turn out to be very, very costly.

The Goal

After Registering...

As soon as the registration process closes, all registered players will take their randomly distributed seats. A game window will appear notifying you to sit-in on your assigned table.

Each player begins with an equal amount of chips. The amount may vary depending on the tournament. These tournament chips have no real value outside the tournament and the values they represent does not in any way represent any eventual winnings from the tournament.

Players are eliminated one by one when they have no chips left. And as the number of players still left in the tournaments drops, players are automatically moved between tables so that all tables remain balanced and equal. So don't be surprised if you all of a sudden find yourself at a completely different table than you started at.

For each ten players that are eliminated a table is removed from play redistributing the players to other tables. This process continues until only one final table remains. And play on that table continues until one player has won all the chips and is victorious!

Blinds go Up and Up

The tricky part about playing a multi compared to ring game poker is that the blind levels increase throughout the tournament. Starting at say $10/$20 they may well reach $1,000/$2,000 before a victor is crowned! So in order to keep in contention you have to steadily increase and build on you initial chip stack.

Luck

To win a large multi table tournament you will have to play for a long time. If you're relying on chance, eventually your luck will run out! Reduce the risks by considering all possible scenarios. One mistake can expel you from the entire tournament.

When you play aggressively, people will be waiting for a chance to take you down with a monster hand. Beware of when this happens to avoid running into a brick wall, losing all your chips.

Trapping

No Limit Play has a lot to do with trapping. Don't be obvious with your cards pre-flop and play to trap opponents with monster hands! You can play slightly looser if you don't risk being raised.

Pot Odds

Use the no-limit bet to make sure no one gets pot odds to outdraw you. Remember that the implied odds can be very high in No Limit games. (Potentially the opponents entire stack.)

If you're raising someone who is playing short-stacked, consider forcing him to go all in. It will reduce the risk of getting called down and make sure he/she doesn't get a second chance.

Strategy Change

The blind increase will alter the correct strategy for each and every hand. If your stack is low compared to the blinds, you will have to take a chance sooner or later and your plan should be to make it at the right moment. When you do act, you should do it aggressively!

Opponent's stacks are extremely important – you're more likely to be called on an all-in by someone who possesses substantially more chips than you are by someone with substantially less. Be aggressive against short-stacked players.

A special circumstance in tournament games is that you actually know the opponents total bankroll, (at least for a particular game). This means that you more easily can put yourself in his/her situation when you are dominating a player with high bets you are hoping he/she shall fold to.

Drying Out

Consistently betting and folding to a larger and aggressive bet pre flop may prove costly. Avoid this by playing tight seated before aggressive players.
